Korea¡¯s principal semiconductor and display equipment makers are to jointly deal with patent disputes against foreign firms.

Totally one billion Korean won is to be put into the project by the government, large companies and SMEs.

The industry said on December 1 that seven of domestic element makers and twenty of equipment/material makers created a patent consortium for semiconductor/display equipments. The consortium will begin its formal activities after the equipment makers¡¯ business agreement ceremony on December 22.

The consortium is to offer various supports to the equipment makers so that they can efficiently cope with patent attacks and infringements of foreign firms: it is to create patent database of semiconductor/display equipment makers, jointly handle patent disputes through patent pool and train appropriate staffs according to each firm¡¯s patent related capability.

Additionally, the consortium is to collect opinions from the related patent industry so as to make its structure organized.
