In an intensifying legal battle, Matsushita Electric Industrial is suing South Korean rival Samsung Electronics for alleged violation of microchip patents, a spokesman for the Japanese company said.

Matsushita Electric Industrial, known for its Panasonic brought action before a federal court in Texas on Monday, seeking damages and a court order to stop patent infringement, the spokesman said.

'We filed a counter-lawsuit against their suit filed with the same court last September,' he said, without disclosing how much his company is seeking in damages. The patents in question are for dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips.
