Official sources told ag-IP-news Agency that the expected date to resume filing trademark applications in Iraq would be sometime between September 10 to 15.
The Trademark Section at the Iraqi Federation of Industries has moved to the Ministry of Industry as of May 30, 2005. The decision came pursuant to Order Number 80, stipulating the Amendment of the Iraqi Trademarks and Descriptions Law No. 21 of 1957, and the Council of Minister’s decision.
Consequently, the section’s activities were suspended and filing of trademark applications has ceased as of the aforementioned date. The above cessation was applied until the Trademark Section has completed the movement and inventory processes.
The Order No. 80 was issued on April 26, 2004, by the Coalition Provisional Authority, and entered into force on the date of its issuance. The new amended law is named "Trademark and Geographical Indications Law."
