Quite a lot of buzz has been going around regarding Intel's recent trademark submissions. The semiconductor giant recently filed trademark applications for "Intel VIIV" and "Intel Inside VIIV," which has sent both the established press and the tech sites up the walls trying to figure out what the symbols mean. One popular theory says that the VIIV is a symbol for 64 (VI for 6, IV for 4), highlighting the 64-bitness of Intel's next chip--of course, that's not the correct Roman numeral expression for 64, which would be LXIV. Other theories say that the VIIV is basically a symmetrically divided icon for dual-V, highlighting the dual-core nature of the V, presumably alluding to the Pentium 5. And still others say that it means nothing, noting that AMD trademarked a number of names that have never been used ("Adepton", "Cerus", and "Forton" to name a few) ... at least not yet.
