A US federal judge has ruled that computer-memory designer, Rambus, can proceed with its patent-infringement suit against Hynix Semiconductor.
Korea-based Hynix, which makes memory, had asked California District Judge Ronald Whyte to dismiss the case, arguing that its memory chips don't infringe Rambus' patents. However Whyte denied the motion.
Rambus, which has been embroiled in a series of lawsuits with some of the top memory-chip makers, claimed it was owed royalty payments for patent infringements.
At the heart of the dispute is a memory standards-setting body called Jedec. Memory makers contend Rambus didn't make it known that it held patents on the technology during standard-setting meetings convened by the body
